Good to have you on-board matt. It was great meeting you at the proto modelers event in Marion. Hopefully I'll soon return to regular posts here and keep things fresh.

Interesting post Eric. I found your blog via our recent email conversation following the Marion Prototype Modelers Meet. I've selected 1936(ish) for some of the reasons that you stated very well above. In my case, the shorter cars and trains drove the decision, along with older steam designs that I consider the first wave of modern steam (Mikes, 2-6-6-2's, 0-6-0's - i.e. USRA-forward). In both cases, a good fit for a basement layout. Why 1930's instead of the '20's (which I had considered)? One is my dad's interests in the N&W, whose modern steam was just coming on line, the other? I like the look of feedwater heaters!

Thanks for reading John. More will be posted soon.

BTW, your steel buildings look like great possibilities for adding a hobby room to a property.
