RPM Updates

With Thanksgiving past and only a few leftovers in the fridge, there’s a bit of a lull at hand before the Christmas season shifts into overdrive. The RPM Event Calendar has been updated and there a dozen events in the first half of 2019. I’m thankful to have attended three RPM’s in 2018 and am looking forward to the New Year.

Prototype Rails kicks off 2019 at the cozy Cocoa Beach Hilton Oceanfront in Florida. This has become a well attended meet with lots of presentations and display models.

Take a few minutes to review the RPM Event Calendar for event details and links to make your 2019 plans. Plan to display some of your models, whether they are completed or in-process. Maybe I’ll see you at an upcoming RPM!

RPM addendum

I enjoyed another RPM Chicagoland meet recently. A number of Pre-Depression Era modelers (the Pirates) attended, as seen in the lead image. That’s me, down in front. Two Pirates were missing at the time of the photo shoot. It was great to catch up with this group in face-to-face conversations and enjoy meals and drinks together. It’s been nine years since a couple of us began corresponding about railroads and industries of the 1900-1930 decades. We’ve learned a great deal from our collective and advanced our individual modeling skills.

RPM updates

It’s been a busy few months with several Railroad Prototype Modeler (RPM) events held around the US and Canada. The summer months are a little quieter but there are a few meets ahead. Review the RPM Event Calendar to see what is happening near you.

Three upcoming events are centered around major population centers. Here’s a quick review.

The New England/Northeast RPM is an easy drive from metro-Boston and NYC. This event has grown quite a bit since the humble beginnings just a few years ago.

The Bay Area RPM will hold it’s 15th annual event near San Francisco.

The St. Louis crew celebrates a 12th annual affair with the St. Louis RPM. This has become one of the largest RPM meets in the country.

Summer winds down with a small specialty meet in the lumber region of north central Pennsylvania; the Buffalo & Susquehanna RR Symposium.

Additional events round out the last few months of 2018. Check the RPM Event Calendar for details and links to make your plans. I’m hoping to attend at least one more this year. Maybe I’ll see you there!

2018 RPM Valley Forge summary

Val keeps the west end of Little Ferry yard organized.

I journeyed to metro-Philadelphia last week for the RPM Valley Forge railroad prototype modeler meet. A winter Nor’easter was threatening but passed through a couple days before the event. I arrived on Thursday afternoon to participate in an operating session that evening.

Notes and Updates

A USRA 2-10-2 strolls along the NC&StL mainline on the Dixie Model Railroad Club in Nashville.

A rather balmy winter is keeping me busy here in middle Tennessee. I’ve become involved with a local club and helping with a couple home layouts. I’ve been slacking on the blog posts. A couple of the resource pages needed an update. The Guide to 1920s era HO scale plastic freight cars has a few overdue additions. This resource page gets the most views every week on the blog. I’m glad to see modelers are using the info. I suspect there are more modelers with a focus on the 1900-1940 years than what the hobby press polls reveal.
